Areas of Interest. Frontiers welcomes original research articles and essays that analyze topics or issues in the field of study abroad by utilizing a fresh and thought-provoking approach. Frontiers is particularly interested in the intellectual development of U.S. students in an international and intercultural context, and welcomes research and writing that focuses on this theme. Frontiers also welcomes reviews of books published in or related to the field of education abroad.
Frontiers encourages interdisciplinary manuscripts. Research on the issue of student learning abroad, for example, might make use of research in anthropology, linguistics, psychology, philosophy, and education. Frontiers encourages researchers in particular fields of study to submit manuscripts that relate well to study abroad. Examples of such articles might include: an analysis of the meaning of study abroad for a particular historical figure; an examination of study abroad themes as they appear in a literary work; a business case study analysis of an abroad program; or a research article on the psychological processes that shape study abroad experiences.
Frontiers publishes occasional thematic volumes or special issues (such as Volume XX: Study Abroad and the City published with the generous support of IFSA-Butler), and a two-volume History of Study Abroad. Proposals for special volumes should be directed to the Editors at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Research submitted for publication must be original, and it should not have been published elsewhere.
Research articles should be between 5,000 – 10,000 words, double-spaced, and should conform to an accepted style such as APA or MLA.
Manuscripts should include a title page indicating the name and contact information of the author(s). A 150-word abstract and a short (75-word limit) biographical sketch of each author should be included.
Manuscripts should be submitted in doc or docx formats. Please do not submit manuscripts in pdf format.
- Manuscripts should be submitted via the online form.
Selection Process. The articles that appear in Frontiers are selected by its editors in consultation with external reviewers using a double-blind peer review process. Manuscripts are accepted on a rolling basis. Once a volume is filled, manuscripts may be reserved for the next volume. Frontiers publishes two (2) volumes each year, Fall and Spring.
